TeamUpcyclers Sustainable Energy Session
We trained 50 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Karon-Majigi IDP Camp in Abuja on waste-to-energy solutions, helping us save 100kg of plastic and e-waste from going into landfills. Additionally, the project created 50 green jobs for IDPs. We awarded solar torchlights and cash rewards to the top 5 IDPs after they successfully completed the renewable energy projects assigned to them.
TeamUpcyclers's Empowerment Scheme
We trained 25 Internally Displaced women from the Karon-Majigi IDP camp on converting food waste into fertilizers, plastic waste into vegetable gardens, and textile waste into reusable sanitary pads. This project helped us save 500kg of plastic, textile, and food waste from going into landfills. After a brief assessment, we selected 4 winners and awarded mini grants to help them kickstart their own green businesses.
Trash To Cash Challenge
We taught 100 students at Christle Model School in Amawbia, Anambra State, Nigeria, how to convert textile waste into reusable sanitary pads, addressing both period poverty and textile waste. This project contributed to a 10% reduction in textile emissions in our target community. Additionally, we educated the students about the UN SDGs, fostering awareness and commitment to sustainable development.
SDG Advocacy in IDP Camps
We trained 782 Internally Displaced Persons across 6 IDP camps on the UN SDGs, crafting reusable sanitary pads from textile waste, and converting e-waste, plastic, and bio-waste into renewable energy sources. Through these efforts, we inspired behavioral changes in over 782 IDPs directly and over 7,795 indirectly, curtailing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% in our target community through our waste-to-wealth initiatives. To encourage excellence, we awarded solar torchlights, exercise books, and cash rewards to the top participants.
SDG Advocacy in Schools
We trained over 5,000 students across 9 schools in 3 communities in Anambra State on the UN SDGs, crafting reusable sanitary pads, body wears, and artworks from textile waste, and converting waste cement bags and bio-waste into vegetable gardens. These efforts directly inspired behavioral changes in more than 5,000 students and indirectly impacted over 10,000 individuals, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 10% in our target communities through waste-to-wealth initiatives. To foster excellence, we partially sponsored the school fees of three students from Divine Mercy College Adazi-Enugwu, Anambra State, who demonstrated their commitment by crafting teddy bears from textile waste.
TeamUpcyclers's Ocean Restoration Challenge
We trained over 10,000 students across 9 schools and 6 IDP camps on combating marine debris and creating wealth from ocean plastics. Through this initiative, participants collected, recycled, and resold plastic waste, successfully diverting over 5 tons of plastic from waterways and landfills. This effort generated $1,000 in revenue for participants and created 500 green jobs, empowering communities while contributing to environmental conservation.
Empowering Grassroot Resilience Against Misinformation With TeamUpcyclers
We trained over 100 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Karon-Majigi IDP Camp and 50 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from the PWD Home in Karon-Majigi, Abuja, on fact-checking and combating misinformation. To ensure wider reach, we delivered the training in the local Hausa dialect via Jordan FM. This initiative empowered IDPs and PWDs with the skills to identify misinformation even without internet access or smartphones. The project was successfully executed in collaboration with Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI).
